All we have left is the Chain by ROBIN HAMMOND

The title comes from a quote by Stephen Asante, a Ghanian mental health nurse and founder of Mental Health Advocacy Foundation (MHAF), a not for profit organisation in northern Ghana dedicated to ensuring people living with mental health issues live with dignity. His full quote, made in reference to the collapse of the infrastructure of mental health care in the region, is as follows: ?Since we ran out of medication, the only thing on offer is the chain.? It speaks to the complexity of this situation. Most of us think this practice is inhumane, but these situations are complex. Often it is desperate families that are restraining loved ones. Chains are not a symbol of evil, but a sign of failed mental health care systems. What we also have to remember is that it is not just in developing countries where mental health care is failing - incarceration and restraining of people with mental health conditions happens in many places, often in state run institutions - and even in where it is rare, mental health care is rarely where it should be.

Because each book is hand produced it nmay contain some minor imperfections in the printing or binding.
