COMISSION SALE Pictures - Herb Ritts Third 1988 edition was limited to 6000 casebound copies - bought (used) from Shipley Books on Charing Cross Road in the late 90's. Original receipt included. no case was with the book when bought and may have been discarded by previous owner? As explained to me at the time this copy of the book was brought into the shop by an assistant to Sinead who no longer required the book in her home. I have no provenance other than what was said to me in the bookshop and what you see in the pictures. I believe the book may have been given to Sinead by Herb - perhaps before or after a photo shoot meeting - the dedication is unusually warm ('much love always' and the cluster of hand drawn stars - his signature was usually short and abbreviated to initials). Herb's various photographs of the star are well documented. The long dedication on the front end papers is very uncommon and shows Herb's close affection for Sinead. The book has certainly been looked at thoroughly by it's previous owner - some of the folded pull out page spreads appear to have not been properly re-folded before closing the book (the pages are not damaged - just a few mistaken folds - see pics). A few other pages appear to have what looks like (slight) finger nail marks/ indentations where page images were enthusiastically studied. The condition of the book is good - although the mylar protective cover could do with changing or cleaning - buyer's decision. I decided to keep it as I found it. I'm inclined to believe this was her copy of the book - Sinead is an unusual name and the lovely dedication is written to someone Herb knew on very close terms. I'd suggest a google search for Herb's signature to verify. A little piece of music celebrity history tied in with arguably one of America's finest arts, portrait and fashion photographers. Sensible offers considered.......
